Teletext is the artistic platform of theatre-musicians Sascha Bornkamp and Leonore Spee. Based on their fascination for the cold emotionality of the Dutch language, Teletext makes Dutch-language music and develops performances. In previous projects the music has made the crossing to theatre, performance and literature. Alan Van Rompuy (A z e r t y keyboard work, Vieze Meisje, Bandler Ching) is a regular Teletext musician.
Teletext creates from concepts and works on a project basis. First project Nobuya (2017) consisted entirely of found sentences from Whatsapp conversations. Music performance Voor de verandering (2018, DEStudio) told a story along the boundaries of free will.
In 2019 and 2020, Sascha Bornkamp and Leonore Spee will conduct research into early Antwerp folk music and their role in new-urban contexts. What self-image is hidden in the songs? How do we as creators relate to this heritage? On location and in collaboration with other artists Teletext is looking for new forms for old songs. A nyeu song is supported by the City of Antwerp, the KCA and is housed in deFENIKS/WALPURGIS.
In Volta Teletext takes care of the Antwerps Liedboek. This document from 1544 is a treasure trove of Old Dutch songs, crying out for an update. Earlier Teletext experimented with Het reghende seer ende ick worde nat. In the summer of 2020 Teletext invites a series of musicians to work together, in the form of two-day sessions, on a song from the Antwerp Songbook.
