Dries Laheye
Born in 1987, finishing his studies in Jazz at the Royal Conservatory for Fine Arts in Antwerp at 2011, Dries Laheye is a musician bound to no genres. Improvisation has always been a key element in the many projects in which he continues to be an active composer and performer. At the moment Dries plays with Selah Sue, STUFF., Lucid Lucia, Hoera., AAN, Fulco, Liesa Van der Aa and he works as a freelance bass player.
Dries will be presenting his first solo album called : Deining.
Deining (a Flemish word) is a wave pattern that has been created by the wind at the surface of the sea or ocean, but is no longer fed by the wind.
Dries has been an active composer and performer for a diverse set of projects, but this is the first time he wrote a repertoire for solo bass guitar. The intention was to create music that keeps moving. The whole is a dreamy world that Dries can move through and express himself in the moment. The compositions of his repertoire starts with the bass guitar as a solo instrument with effects as tools.
The intention is to make work that has some concrete elements and preserves space for improvisation and interpretation.
