Laryssa Kim
Laryssa KimLaryssa Kim is a rare type. An artist who has seized the precious ability to synthesise divergentsounds and practices into a wondrous and coherent whole, her rousing articulation of music’s mostsensuous modes straddles both the academic and worldly as deftly as she scales ethereal heights. Now based in Brussels, Laryssa Kim is an Italo-Congolese singer and composer with an arrestingset of influences. Her first forays into music took place in Rome, writing and performing with reg-gae musicians and DJs. Here she honed her instinctual strengths in a predominantly live setting. She relocated to Amsterdam in 2008 and immersed herself in contemporary dance and physicaltheatre, broadening her toolset in an environment that supported and encouraged playful experi-mentation around composition.
Basing herself in Brussels since 2013, Laryssa went on to formallypursue her interest in electroacoustics by completing a master’s program at the Royal Conservato-ry of Mons in acousmatic music composition.Amid these studies she took the natural step of establishing her own artistic project to develop anintimate, personalised route through her rich experience of music’s different mechanisms and mo-dels. The landscape of Laryssa Kim’s music is impassioned and mesmerizing. Employing her voiceas her central instrument, hypnotic swells of elegant lyrical forms are scattered around finely brai-ded electronics and instrumental motifs that gather into tender song structures. Her suite of effectsand looping tools propel her voice through delicately balanced compositions that place her bet-ween varying experimental practices. Presented in a live performance setting, these shifting, onei-ric qualities only intensify.

Later on the same year, Lassenne Vocale collaborated with Familia Cantoum (Letohrad) and Piccolo Coro (Prague) in performing a concert tour in Czech Republic. In 2021, Lassenne Vocale participated in a project called “Cathedralis” by Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of David Navarro Turres, performing pieces for choir and orchestra and some modern a cappella works.
