Vireo
is the harp duo of harpists Marjolein Vernimmen and Jenna Vergeynst.
They found each other in their passion for contemporary music with unusual sounds.
This evening they will bring two pieces for harpduo together with Roel Das on electronics:
- ‘Echo Yes No’ (2019) by Mike Svoboda’s
contemplates on the inner struggle that comes with difficult decisions in life. Attending a performance of this piece is a live experience of such a moment of struggle: the sounds circling around the hall through the surround speaker setup, create a unique experience in every single seat. - SUB ECLIPSE BLOOD WORK (subsiding/waning) (2023-25) by Ed Cooper
gets under your skin in a different way: intimate, melancholic chords on the harp colour a deep, multilayered foundation in the electronics. The origins of these hypnotic, rumbling sounds only become clear when the harp's deepest string is stroked with a double bass bow. Listening to the sound of blood flowing through veins, driven by an arrhythmically pulsating heart, requires a closeness so strong that it implies being-part-of, a feeling manipulated by ungraspable surround sound.
Azertyklavierwerke
Azertyklavierwerke is a Brussels-based artist active in music and performance. Since 2018, he has independently released solo work. In 2021, he gained mainstream media attention with his single Durum. His work is characterized by a seemingly effortless ability to fuse radically different
musical approaches and artistic choices into a cohesive whole while maintaining a self-reflective playfulness. Beyond his solo career, he is involved in various collaborative projects, including the idiosyncratic club performance Vieze Meisje, a long-term partnership with theater maker and writer Dounia Mahammed, and Scream Manifesto by Hoda Siahtiri. He is also a member of Crop Top, a live improvised artcore band featuring Casper Van De Velde (Bombataz, schtzl), Sam Declerq (Bontridders, Félicette), and Sylvain Haenen (Fievel Is Glauque).
