Louise van den Heuvel

With Dishwasher_ (laureate of the Young Jazz Talent Ghent award), Van den Heuvel has positioned herself at the forefront of a new generation of talents blending jazz playfully with other genres. She also Louise van den Heuvel is a Dutch bassist, composer and musician based in Brussels. Originally from Maastricht, she moved to Belgium for her studies, first in Ghent and later in Brussels, where she became active in the local jazz scene.

Her music is rooted in jazz but also draws strongly from electronic music and other contemporary influences. She is particularly interested in using effects and modern musical technologies to explore new sounds, while keeping a strong sense of groove and improvisation.

Louise is a co-founder of the jazz trio Dishwasher_, which combines jazz with electronic influences. She has also worked with artists such as Zwangere Guy, Lander Gyselinck, STACE, Bruno Vansina and Stéphane Galland, including projects such as The Rhythm Hunters and The Gallands.

With her own quartet Sonic Hug, Louise also developed her work as a bandleader, composer and singer. The project explores a more personal and melodic side of her music, combining melancholic songs, elegant grooves, experimental jazz and electronic textures.

Louise van den Heuvel’s work moves between jazz, electronics and song, with improvisation and sound exploration at the centre. Her approach is open and curious, allowing different musical influences to come together naturally.
