Robin Eubanks is an American jazz trombonist, composer and educator from Philadelphia. He comes from a musical family and started studying music and trombone at the age of eight. He later studied at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where he also focused on music theory, harmony, composition and arranging.

After moving to New York, Robin Eubanks built a career through a wide range of collaborations. He has worked with artists such as Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Sun Ra, Eddie Palmieri, Michael Brecker, Dave Holland, as well as The Rolling Stones, Talking Heads and Barbra Streisand.

His own music reflects the same openness. Through projects such as Mental Images and EB3, he explores different sides of jazz while bringing in elements of funk, Latin music and more experimental approaches. He has also recorded several albums as a leader and his compositions and arrangements have been performed and recorded by groups including the Mingus Big Band, SFJAZZ Collective and Dave Holland’s ensembles.

Alongside performing and composing, Robin Eubanks has spent many years teaching jazz and working with young musicians. He has taught at institutions including Oberlin Conservatory, Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory, as well as giving masterclasses in different countries.

With a career spanning more than four decades, Robin Eubanks has built his musical identity around curiosity, versatility and a strong connection to jazz, while remaining open to different sounds and musical traditions.
